Ignacio Solla

Biography

Ignacio has devoted his career to facade design and technology. He began his professional career in 1991 working for a cladding contractor and facade systems supplier. Since 2004 Ignacio has led Arup's Facade Engineering team in Spain, with ongoing projects in Europe, Latin America, Middle East and United States. His experience is focused on lightweight and energy-efficient envelope solutions: curtainwall, double-skin facades, rain screen systems, photovoltaics, operational energy control and responsive facade systems.

Ignzcio has participated in landmark projects such as the Telefónica HQ in Madrid, Bridge Pavilion in Zaragoza, Qatar Faculty of Islamic Studies in Doha, Santander Call Centre in Querétaro, Ashgabat Olympic City in Turkmenistan, and Congress Centre in Bogotá. His team is currently working on projects with luminaries such as Norman Foster, Zaha Hadid, Jean Nouvel, Richard Rogers, Juan Herreros and Richard Meier. Ignacio has been a visiting lecturer at Princeton University's School of Architecture and the Universidad Europea de Madrid. He participates at Masters in Universidad Europea, Universidad Politécnica de Madrid and Universidad del País Vasco. Ignacio is co-author of the book La envolvente fotovoltaica en la Arquitectura (The Photovoltaic Involvement in Architecture), published by Reverte.
