Alex is a licensed architect and co-founder of StudioTJOA, a multidisciplinary architectural office dedicated to fabrication oriented design, with a focused specialty in façade design and consulting, design assist methodologies, and parametric analysis, workflows and optimizations.
Alex's professional experience ranges from urban planning and landscape architecture to product and façade design. However, throughout his varied career, Alex has maintained a primary focus in parametric modeling, geometric optimization, façade design, and fabrication techniques.
He was drawn to parametric modeling as a result of his interest in textiles as they relate to architecture, a topic that he first explored in his graduate research. Since then, Alex has continued to explore the use of textiles, specifically techniques such as crochet, knitting, weaving, and macramé as they relate to contemporary design and digital craft. He has presented his work at international conferences and university sponsored workshops on how digital design can be bridged through the fiber experimentation.
