FTI contributes to updates to GSA’s P100 Building Standard

The U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) released its latest revision to P100 Facilities Standards for the Public Buildings Service in May 2024. This standard sets performance criteria for 300,000 federal buildings nationwide. P100 requires that facilities adopt advanced energy conservation strategies. These requirements apply to both new and renovated federal facilities.

The Façade Tectonics Institute’s Advocacy Committee, which is comprised of a cross-section of design and construction and supply chain professionals, submitted detailed recommendations for updates to improve the P100 standard’s façade performance requirements. Many of those proposals were included in the new revision including:
• Use of the latest 2022 version of ASHRAE 90.1 as the energy standard
• Requirement for no condensation on interior fenestration surfaces under project-specific interior and exterior design criteria
• Thermal bridge mitigation requirements
• Requirement for thermally broken frames in aluminum fenestration in all climate zones except zones 0 and 1.

The Façade Tectonics Institute’s Advocacy Committee

The Advocacy Committee was established in recognition of the necessity to engage the Institute in industry standards, codes, and public policy as a strategy to further the mission of accelerating a transformation to sustainable buildings and urban habitat. This may involve developing and forwarding our own initiatives or supporting the initiatives of other groups. Committee initiatives could potentially involve the development of codes, standards, metrics, rating systems, and/or guidelines relating to various aspects of façade system design and delivery. If you are interested in joining the Advocacy Committee or the Institute itself, contact Katerina Hojgrova, Executive Director, khojgrova@facadetectonics.org.
